Fawm Kauv - Steam rice rolls

Rice crepe:
1 1/2 cup rice flour (red bag)
1 1/2 cup tapioca flour (blue bag)
5 cups water
1 tbsp oil

Mix everything together. Set aside.

1 pound ground pork (or chicken, beef, turkey)
1/2 cup scallions chopped
1/2 cup cilantro chopped
pinch of salt
pinch of black pepper

Brown the ground pork until cooked. Add salt, black pepper. Add the green onion and cilantro.

Making of the crepe:
1. In a crepe pan (or non-stick pan), turn the heat on medium low. When the pan is hot, add crepe and swirl it around to coat the pan. Let it cook until the sides start to pull in and looks transparent.

2. Pour the crepe onto a large plate. I lay out a sheet of aluminum foil and pour it on that.

3. Sprinkle meat all over the crepe evenly. Add as much as you like.

4. You can fold it like how you fold egg rolls OR fold all edges in into a square and roll up.

Annie's peanut sauce:
1 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp lime juice
2 tbsp fish sauce (three crabs brand)
3 tbsp water
1 tbsp chunky peanut butter (or plain)
1 tbsp thai chili or chili sambal sauce

Mix everything together until well blended.

thats one thing that i also learn to do when i was in calif and yes it does taste a whole lot better then the packet that is already made, not only that too it makes a whole lot more then the already made packets...

Annie, first of all thank you!!!! So much for sharing these wonderful recipes. In regards to the fawm kauv I was wondering what Thai chili or sambal sauce is? Is it sirachi sauce?

I've been following you with your updates on cooking and I'm glad you post up the step list for making steam rice roll . It's always been a fail for me but I finally got it ! Even watching youtube videos , I can't seem to get it right. I carefully did it by following your directions and it turned out better than I thought !!!  Lol : ) Thanks a bunch!

Have you ever tried it with real rice?? It's good!! My aunt showed me how to make it. Two cups reg. rice and one cup sticky rice. Rinse and let them soak for 30 mins. Drain completly. You will need a blender next. When you blend it, you will need to add 4 cups of cold water (I think 4 or maybe 3...I need to write it down next time) into the rice mixture. Blend the rice and water in a blender til it's liquid form (I blend it twice). Add about 1 tbsp of oil, stir it up and pan steam it then roll. Try it out and let me know if it worked for you. I usually just cook it by memory. My mom is a big fan of it and always requests for me to make it for her.

Will it turn out different if I use the GREEN package ? It's rice flour too, except the fact it's glutinous. :(

Hi, Annie. Thank you so much for the ingredients and video tutorial. I try this at home an my family they all like it very much. Thanks. I was wondering if you know how to make the color drinks in the bag that they sell at Hmong New Year food booth. I really want to know. If you do, I really appreciate it very much.

Annie, thank you for sharing your recipes. I've been asking for the recipe for the crepes but no one ever wants to tell me!!! I agree totally with you that the more we all know/share the better we all eat! Keep it up! I love all your food!

Can I use the green bag and the red bag together? Would it still turn out the same?

Will your cookbook ever be available for smartphones? Or even in a book format??

If you don't have tapioca flour can you use tapioca starch ?

How many people does this recipe feed? - Karena
